Where to spot
Found in various open habitats including short grasslands, cultivated fields, and damp areas across West and Central Africa.
How to spot
Scan open grassy areas, especially near water or short crops. Look for its characteristic 'run-stop-peck' foraging behavior. Note its double breast bands and pale eyebrow for identification.
When to spot
Present year-round in its resident range. Most active during the day, particularly during morning and late afternoon hours.
This plover often feeds by rapidly running short distances, then pausing abruptly to scan for insects and other small invertebrates on the ground.
