Spotted
The Little Crow is a common and widespread small black crow found across much of mainland Australia. Despite its name, it is a sturdy bird, distinguished from other Australian corvids by its size and vocalizations.
Where to spot
Widespread across mainland Australia, inhabiting open woodlands, grasslands, agricultural areas, and suburban environments, often avoiding dense forests.
How to spot
Look for a smaller, entirely black crow compared to other Australian species. The most reliable identification feature is its distinct, high-pitched, nasal 'nark-nark-nark' call, which sounds quite different from the deeper calls of other crows and ravens.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active throughout the day, with noticeable gatherings at dawn and dusk at roost sites.
