Where to spot
Resident in highlands from central Mexico south through Central America to northern Nicaragua.

Look in humid montane forests with dense undergrowth, ravines, and stream sides. It often forages low to the ground. Watch for its distinctive tail-fanning and listen for its high-pitched, thin song.

Can be observed year-round within its resident montane forest habitats. More vocal during the local breeding season.
