Spotted
A small, endangered antpitta with a prominent ochre forehead, known from only a few localities in northern Peru. It is a highly secretive inhabitant of high-elevation cloud forests.
Where to spot
Endemic to a very small area of high-elevation humid montane cloud forest in northern Peru, particularly in the departments of Amazonas and San Martín.
How to spot
Its unique vocalizations are the primary key to detection. Due to its extreme rarity and shyness, finding it requires dedicated effort and local expert guidance in its dense, restricted habitat.
When to spot
Best observed during early morning, especially at dawn when it is most vocal. Active year-round within its specific high-altitude cloud forest habitat.
