The Double-spurred Spurfowl is a widespread and common resident of West Africa, easily recognized by its rufous-brown plumage, streaked underparts, and the presence of two spurs on each leg.
Where to spot
Inhabits savannas, woodlands, cultivated areas, and open country with scattered bushes across West Africa, from Senegal to Cameroon.
How to spot
Listen for its loud, clucking call, which is frequently heard. Look for them foraging on the ground in open areas or near dense vegetation.
When to spot
Most active at dawn and dusk, but can also be seen foraging throughout the day in suitable habitats.
