The Ruacana Chat is a rare and localized species, named after the Ruacana Falls region where it was first described. It is a large, dark chat, often found on rocky outcrops.
Where to spot
Found in a restricted range in southern Angola and northern Namibia, inhabiting rocky inselbergs, koppies, and granite outcrops within mopane woodland.
How to spot
Observation requires visiting its specific, limited range. Look for it perched conspicuously on large rocks or boulders. Listen for its loud, clear song, which is often the first indication of its presence.

Year-round resident. Most vocal and easily observed during the breeding season (typically Oct-Mar) when males are singing.
