The Chestnut-fronted Macaw is a medium-sized green macaw with a distinctive chestnut-colored forehead band and patches on its wings. It is the smallest of the 'true' Ara macaws.
Where to spot
Tropical humid evergreen forests, forest edges, and cultivated areas throughout the Amazon basin and parts of Central America (Panama).
How to spot
Listen for their harsh, croaking calls. Look for them in pairs or small flocks flying over the forest canopy or feeding quietly in fruiting trees.
When to spot
Year-round. Most active during the day, particularly conspicuous when flying between feeding and roosting sites.
