The Rusty-faced Parrot is a small to medium-sized parrot found in the Andes of South America, named for the rufous or rusty coloration on its face. It inhabits high-altitude cloud forests.
Where to spot
Humid montane and cloud forests along the Andes, from Venezuela through Colombia and Ecuador. Prefers the mid to upper canopy.
How to spot
Look for its rusty face and overall green plumage. Listen for its loud, screeching calls, which often reveal its presence. They are often seen in small flocks.
When to spot
Active throughout the day, particularly visible when foraging in the morning and late afternoon. This is a resident species.
