The Russet-crowned Warbler is a small, active warbler with an olive-green back, bright yellow underparts, a distinctive russet (reddish-brown) crown, and a contrasting pale face.
Where to spot
Resident in humid montane forests from Costa Rica and Panama south to western Colombia and western Ecuador.
How to spot
Look in humid evergreen forests, especially along edges or in clearings. It often forages in the mid-story. Listen for its rapid, accelerating song, often described as a series of "chip" notes increasing in speed.
When to spot
Can be observed year-round within its resident montane forest habitats. More vocal during the local breeding season.
