Where to spot
Found across the Himalayas, parts of China, and Southeast Asia, typically inhabiting rocky slopes, cliffs, and open woodlands in mountainous regions.
How to spot
Look on open rocky slopes, near cliffs, and in sparse montane forests. Search for it perching conspicuously. Its bold coloring, especially the male's, makes it relatively easy to identify. Listen for its loud, clear song.
When to spot
Year-round resident in many parts, though some populations undertake altitudinal migration in winter. Most easily observed during the breeding season (spring/summer) when males are singing.
