Spotted
The Semi-collared Flycatcher is a medium-sized migratory bird, closely related to the Collared Flycatcher, distinguished by its less complete white collar. It is primarily an insectivore, inhabiting mature woodlands.
Where to spot
Breeds in broadleaved and mixed forests in Southeast Europe and Western Asia, particularly in mountainous areas. Winters in East and Central Africa. Seen in various habitats during migration.
How to spot
Search for them in mature deciduous forests, often near rivers or streams. Look for the less distinct white collar on males compared to the Collared Flycatcher, and a prominent white patch at the base of the primaries on both sexes.
When to spot
Breeding season is from May to July. Best observed during spring migration (April-May) and autumn migration (September-October) as they pass through suitable habitats.

This species often hybridizes with the Collared Flycatcher where their breeding ranges overlap, which can make identification challenging for birdwatchers.
