A beautiful migratory flycatcher endemic to Northwest Africa, males exhibiting striking black-and-white plumage. It is a forest dweller.
Where to spot
Breeds in cedar and oak forests of the Atlas Mountains in Northwest Africa (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia); winters in West Africa.
How to spot
Look for it actively sallying for insects from a perch. Males are highly conspicuous. Listen for its song in breeding areas.
When to spot
Breeding season (spring/summer) in the Atlas Mountains; during migration (autumn) to its wintering grounds.
