Cassin's Honeyguide is a small, inconspicuous bird, typically dull brownish-green, making it challenging to spot in its dense forest habitat. Like other honeyguides, it is a brood parasite, laying its eggs in the nests of other bird species. It is named after the American ornithologist John Cassin.
Where to spot
Found in tropical and subtropical moist lowland forests across West and Central Africa, from Sierra Leone to Angola and Uganda.
How to spot
It is an extremely difficult bird to observe visually due to its small size and tendency to stay high in the canopy. Listen for its soft, insect-like trills or whistles, which are often the only clue to its presence. Look for tiny, subtle movements in dense foliage.

Present year-round. Best observed during the dry season when birds might be more active due to food availability. It is generally very difficult to spot due to its habits.
