Southern Africa, including South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique. Found near water bodies (rivers, lakes, dams), coastal areas, parks, gardens, and cultivated land.
How to spot
Look for its typical wagtail shape, long tail, and constant tail-wagging. Its plumage is mostly grey-brown with a white belly and a faint breast band. Often seen foraging on the ground.

Year-round resident. Active throughout the day, particularly in the morning and late afternoon.
