Spotted
Campbell's Fairywren is a relatively newly recognized species of fairywren, endemic to specific forest habitats in New Guinea. It's a small, inconspicuous bird that moves through the understory.
Where to spot
Lowland and hill forests of New Guinea, often in dense undergrowth.
How to spot
Watch for small, quick movements in the dense understory of tropical forests. Their calls can be subtle, so keen listening combined with slow, deliberate searching is beneficial.
When to spot
Most active during the day, with better chances of observation in the cooler morning hours.
This species was only recently separated from the Broad-billed Fairywren based on genetic and vocal differences, highlighting the complexity of avian taxonomy in New Guinea.
