Spotted
The Eyrean Grasswren is a highly localized and nomadic bird, typically found in isolated patches of sand-dune country in central Australia. Its plumage provides excellent camouflage against the sandy environment.
Where to spot
Stabilized sand dunes with spinifex and cane grass in the remote interior deserts of central Australia.
How to spot
This species is incredibly cryptic; look for subtle movements within dense spinifex clumps. Walking along dune crests while carefully scanning can sometimes yield a sighting, but they are quick to disappear.
When to spot
Best observed in the cooler hours of the day, early morning or late afternoon, to avoid extreme heat.
