Where to spot
Endemic to central China, particularly in Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu provinces. Found in montane forests with dense bamboo thickets, often at higher elevations.
How to spot
Look for its dull brown wings contrasting with a more greyish body and a stout pale bill. Often found in small, active flocks, moving through dense bamboo. Listen for its high-pitched, chattering calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active during the day. More easily located by its calls during the breeding season (spring-summer).
