Spotted
Ludlow's Fulvetta is a rather localized species found in the eastern Himalayas and adjacent regions. It is a shy bird, often remaining hidden in dense undergrowth.
Where to spot
Found in the eastern Himalayas, including parts of Bhutan, northeastern India, and southeastern Tibet (China). Inhabits dense rhododendron and bamboo thickets within montane evergreen forests.
How to spot
It is a dull-colored fulvetta, so focus on its shape, behavior, and calls. Listen for its high-pitched, somewhat reedy calls, often given from dense cover. Patience is key to spotting this elusive bird.
When to spot
Resident species. Most active during the day, though often hidden. Observing it might be easier during the breeding season (spring-summer) when it is more vocal.
This species is named after Frank Ludlow, a British botanist and ornithologist who collected extensively in the Himalayas.
