The Fulvous Parrotbill is a beautiful and colorful parrotbill species found in the high-altitude forests of the Himalayas and southwestern China. It is known for its rich rufous and buff plumage.
Where to spot
Found in the Himalayas (Nepal, Bhutan, northeast India, northern Myanmar) and southwestern China (Yunnan, Sichuan). Inhabits high-altitude temperate and subtropical forests, bamboo, and rhododendron thickets.
How to spot
Look for its distinctive rich fulvous (tawny) and rufous plumage, often with a contrasting darker cap and pale eye-ring. Often found in small, active flocks, moving through dense undergrowth. Listen for its high-pitched, often metallic calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active during the day. More easily observed during the breeding season (spring-summer) when they are vocal.
