The Golden Parrotbill is a stunningly colored species found in the montane forests of Southeast Asia and southern China. It is notable for its bright golden-yellow underparts.
Where to spot
Found in southern China (Yunnan, Sichuan, Guangxi) and parts of mainland Southeast Asia (Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam). Inhabits subtropical and temperate montane forests, bamboo, and dense scrub.
How to spot
Look for its striking golden-yellow underparts, contrasted with darker upperparts and a stout pale bill. Often found in small, active flocks, moving through dense vegetation. Listen for its high-pitched, often metallic calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active during the day. Best observed during the breeding season (spring-summer) when males are singing.
Its brilliant golden plumage makes it one of the most eye-catching parrotbill species, standing out against the green foliage.
