Where to spot
Found in a wide range of habitats, including open forests, woodlands, plantations, gardens, and even urban areas, across South Asia, Southeast Asia, and parts of East Asia.
How to spot
Listen for its characteristic two-note 'whoop-whoop' or 'hoo-hoo' calls. Look for it perched upright on branches or wires, often quite visible, especially at dawn or dusk.
When to spot
Primarily nocturnal and crepuscular, active from dusk to dawn. Their calls are common at night, especially during breeding season.
