Spotted
The Brazilian Tinamou is a relatively large and stocky tinamou native to the Amazon rainforest, typically found in terra firme (non-flooded) forests. It is an elusive and secretive species.
Where to spot
Found in lowland tropical rainforests, particularly terra firme forests, across the southern Amazon basin in Brazil, Bolivia, and Peru.
How to spot
Listen for its deep, drawn-out, and somewhat booming calls. As with other tinamous, it is highly secretive and difficult to spot, requiring immense patience and a quiet approach in its dense forest habitat.
When to spot
Most vocal during the early morning and late afternoon, making these the best times for detection.

Despite its common name, the Brazilian Tinamou's range extends beyond Brazil into neighboring Amazonian countries, typically favoring drier, well-drained forest types rather than floodplains.
