The Marico Flycatcher (*Bradornis mariquensis*) is a widespread African flycatcher. It is a relatively large, drab brown-grey bird with a pale belly, often showing faint streaking on the breast, and a relatively long tail.
Where to spot
Found in dry woodlands, savannas, and acacia scrub across southern Africa, including Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.
How to spot
Look for its drab brownish-grey plumage and upright posture. Watch for its characteristic flycatching behavior from an exposed perch. Listen for its short, harsh calls.
When to spot
Resident throughout much of its range, active year-round. It is often observed throughout the day, sallying from prominent perches to catch insects.
This species often perches on the very tops of acacia trees or dead snags, making it a prominent sight in its dry savanna habitat.
