The Fiscal Flycatcher (*Sigelus silens*) is a medium-sized African flycatcher of South Africa, characterized by its striking black and white plumage, reminiscent of a Fiscal Shrike.
Where to spot
Endemic to South Africa, inhabiting fynbos, karoo scrub, open woodlands, gardens, and agricultural areas, particularly in the drier western and central regions.
How to spot
Look for its distinctive black and white plumage. It often perches conspicuously. Listen for its short, chattering calls and simple song.
When to spot
Resident year-round. It is often observed throughout the day, perching prominently on bushes or wires and sallying for insects.
