Spotted
The Spotted Wren-babbler is a medium-sized, terrestrial babbler characterized by its heavily spotted underparts and rich brown plumage. It is a secretive resident of dense montane forests.
Where to spot
Found in Peninsular Malaysia and Sumatra, Indonesia. It inhabits dense, humid montane evergreen forests, particularly areas with thick undergrowth and mossy ground.
How to spot
Listen for its loud, distinctive, and often melancholic song, a series of clear, ringing whistles. Look for a heavily spotted, brownish bird moving furtively on or very near the forest floor, often flicking its tail.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active during the early morning and late afternoon. Due to its secretive nature, patience is essential.

Its intricate spotted pattern acts as remarkable camouflage, making it incredibly difficult to spot amidst the dappled light and leaf litter of the forest floor.
