The Small White-eye is a species found on the Bismarck Archipelago in Papua New Guinea. As its name suggests, it is a relatively small white-eye, with a clear white eye-ring and olive-green upperparts.
Where to spot
Found on various islands within the Bismarck Archipelago, Papua New Guinea, inhabiting forests and forest edges.
How to spot
Look for small, active birds in the canopy and mid-story. Listen for their high-pitched, often repetitive calls. Observe its overall size relative to surrounding foliage.
When to spot
Active year-round. Most visible during early morning and late afternoon when foraging.
Despite its common name, distinguishing it from other white-eye species often requires careful observation of subtle plumage differences and vocalizations.
