The Giant White-eye is a distinctive species endemic to Palau in Micronesia. As its name suggests, it is remarkably larger than most other white-eye species.
Where to spot
Endemic to the larger islands of Palau, including Babeldaob, Koror, and Peleliu. Inhabits primary and secondary forests, forest edges, and mangroves.
How to spot
Its large size for a white-eye, stout bill, and a faint or absent eye-ring are key. It has a dull yellowish-green plumage. Often found foraging in the mid-canopy or undergrowth, sometimes in mixed-species flocks. Listen for its loud, whistling calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active during the day. Easily observed throughout the year.
