The Golden White-eye is a stunning and unique species endemic to the Mariana Islands in the western Pacific. It is easily recognized by its vibrant golden-yellow plumage.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Mariana Islands, particularly Saipan, Tinian, and Aguijan. Inhabits various forest types, including native limestone forests and introduced vegetation.
How to spot
Look for its unmistakable bright golden-yellow plumage, contrasting with a dark eye and a clear white eye-ring. Often found foraging for insects and nectar in the canopy. Listen for its clear, melodious calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active during the day. Can be observed throughout the year, especially in areas with flowering plants.
This species is unusually large and brightly colored compared to most other white-eyes, which are typically smaller and more greenish.
