Spotted
A rather dull-plumaged cotinga species found in the western Amazon basin. It is characterized by its dusky grey body and slightly paler grey wing panel, often appearing rather nondescript.
Where to spot
Humid lowland rainforests in the western Amazon of southeastern Peru and southwestern Brazil.
How to spot
Scan the mid-story and canopy, especially within mixed-species flocks. Its plain dusky grey plumage can make it hard to identify without good views. Listen for its rather soft, high-pitched calls.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active during the early morning when foraging for fruits.
