Where to spot
Found in the eastern Himalayas (northeast India, Bhutan, northern Myanmar) and southwestern China (Yunnan, Sichuan). Inhabits high-altitude temperate and subtropical forests, bamboo, and rhododendron thickets.
How to spot
Look for its striking yellow bill. Often found in small flocks, moving through dense undergrowth and bamboo. Listen for its characteristic high-pitched chirps and chattering calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active during the day. More vocal and potentially easier to spot during the breeding season (spring-summer).
