Endemic to the Central Highlands of southern Vietnam, particularly the Dalat Plateau. Inhabits montane evergreen forests, especially those with bamboo and dense undergrowth.

Look for its striking black throat patch contrasting with a pale breast, along with its bright yellow eye-ring and stout bill. Often found in small, active flocks, moving through dense vegetation. Listen for its chattering calls.
