The Bioko Batis is a small, active bird endemic to the island of Bioko off the coast of West Africa. Males have a black mask, white supercilium, and a black breast band, while females have a rufous breast band.
Where to spot
Endemic to the island of Bioko (Equatorial Guinea). Inhabits various forest types from lowlands to montane areas.
How to spot
Look for them actively foraging in the mid-story and canopy of forests on Bioko. Identify by the typical batis pattern. Listen for its sharp, repeated 'chip' or 'dzit' calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round on Bioko Island. Active throughout the day.
As an island endemic, this species has evolved in relative isolation, making its unique characteristics and conservation status particularly important.
