Spotted
The Bengal Florican is a critically endangered bustard species, celebrated for the male's stunning black and white breeding plumage. It is one of the heaviest flying birds.
Where to spot
Highly restricted to isolated pockets of tall grassland in South and Southeast Asia, including parts of India, Nepal, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
How to spot
Requires dedicated search in protected tall grassland habitats. Focus on areas known for their presence. Watch for the male's dramatic leaps above the grass, which are the easiest way to spot them. Be respectful of their critically endangered status.
When to spot
Most visible during the breeding season (typically March to May) when males perform their elaborate display leaps. Best observed in the early morning or late afternoon.
