Where to spot
Endemic to the Lesser Sunda Islands, including Timor, Flores, Sumba, and other smaller islands in eastern Indonesia, inhabiting open woodlands, grasslands, agricultural areas, and human settlements.
How to spot
Look for extensive, bold barring on the neck, breast, and belly, which tends to be more pronounced and cover more of the underparts than in the Zebra Dove. Listen for its slightly different cooing call.
When to spot
Active throughout the day, typically observed foraging on the ground in open areas, particularly in the cooler parts of the morning and late afternoon.
