Spotted
The Amethyst Brown-Dove is a striking medium-sized dove, characterized by iridescent purple and green patches on its neck and mantle. It is a secretive forest-dwelling bird, often difficult to spot amidst the dense vegetation it inhabits.
Where to spot
Primarily found in the understory and mid-story of moist primary and mature secondary forests, from lowlands up to montane elevations. Often associated with dense vegetation and fruiting trees.
How to spot
Listen for its deep, resonant cooing calls that carry well through the forest, often the best way to locate it. Look for it perched quietly on branches within the canopy or foraging for fruits. Patience and a good ear are key to spotting this camouflaged bird.
When to spot
Most active during the early morning and late afternoon when foraging for fruits. They are resident birds and can be observed year-round within their geographical range.
