Where to spot
Found in the humid montane forests and cloud forests along the eastern slopes of the Andes, from southern Colombia south through Ecuador, Peru, and into Bolivia.
How to spot
Listen for its loud, resonant hooting call, which can carry a long distance. To observe, find quiet trails in suitable forest habitats and wait patiently near where calls are heard. It often forages on the forest floor, but stays close to cover.

Most vocal and active during the early morning and late afternoon hours. Can be observed year-round within its extensive Andean range.
