The Sahel Bush Sparrow is an African sparrow species characterized by its drab, streaky plumage and a yellow patch on the throat, which can be hard to see. It prefers dry open woodlands and savannas.
Where to spot
Sahel region of Africa, from Senegal to Ethiopia and Eritrea. Found in dry savannas, open woodlands, thorn scrub, and cultivated areas.
How to spot
Look for its streaky brown plumage and try to spot the subtle yellow throat patch. Often forages on the ground or in low bushes. Its calls are typically harsh chirps.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed during the cooler parts of the day.
