Spotted
Therese's Snowfinch is a poorly known and range-restricted species found in the high mountains of Afghanistan. It is a robust bird of arid, alpine environments.
Where to spot
High-altitude mountainous regions of central and eastern Afghanistan. Inhabits rocky alpine and subalpine zones with sparse vegetation.
How to spot
Requires significant effort to locate. Look for typical snowfinch behavior – foraging on rocky ground. Distinguishing it from other snowfinches requires very careful observation of subtle plumage details.
When to spot
Year-round resident, but observation is challenging due to the remote and difficult terrain.
This species is one of the least studied snowfinches, with much of its biology and ecology remaining to be fully understood due to its remote and often inaccessible habitat.
