Where to spot
Breeds on islands and coastal cliffs throughout the Mediterranean and Black Seas. Forages widely in these enclosed seas and rarely ventures into the Atlantic.

Look for its dark grey-brown upperparts, clean white underparts, and dark underwing. Its flight is agile and energetic, with rapid wingbeats and banking turns. Often seen in coastal waters or from ferries. Best observed during boat trips in the Mediterranean or Black Sea.
