Spotted
The Cuban Parakeet is a small to medium-sized green parakeet with a distinctive white orbital ring and a variable amount of red spotting on its head and neck. It is endemic to Cuba.
Where to spot
Forests, woodlands, and cultivated areas, primarily in the remaining forested regions of Cuba.
How to spot
Look for small flocks moving through the canopy. Listen for their typical parakeet calls. The red spotting can be subtle, so focus on the white eye-ring and overall green plumage.
When to spot
Year-round. Most active during the early morning and late afternoon.
The Cuban Parakeet faces significant conservation challenges due to habitat loss and trapping for the pet trade.
