The Red-and-green Macaw is a magnificent large macaw, primarily red with green feathers on its wings and blue on the wingtips, often confused with the Scarlet Macaw.
Where to spot
Tropical humid evergreen forests and savannas, widely distributed across northern and central South America.
How to spot
Listen for their characteristic deep, guttural calls. Look for them flying high overhead in pairs or groups, often at clay licks or perched conspicuously in tall trees.
When to spot
Year-round. Most active at dawn and dusk when commuting to and from communal roosts and feeding sites. Frequently observed at clay licks.
