Spotted
The Malabar Magpie-Robin is a charming black and white bird, closely related to other magpie-robins and native to the Western Ghats of India. It inhabits forested areas and dense scrub.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Western Ghats mountain range in southwestern India. It prefers moist deciduous and evergreen forests, as well as dense scrubland.
How to spot
Look for its typical magpie-robin shape and black and white plumage. Its song is generally considered less complex than the Oriental Magpie-Robin, which can aid in identification in its specific range.
When to spot
A resident bird, observable throughout the year. Like other magpie-robins, it is most vocal during the breeding season, typically during the pre-monsoon and monsoon months.
