Humid lowland forests and forest edges across the Amazon basin and parts of the Guianan Shield in South America. Look in the understory.

Its extremely broad bill is the primary identification feature. Look for it perching quietly and making short, direct sallies to catch insects from foliage.

Year-round, most active in the early morning and late afternoon.
