The Smoky Bush-Tyrant is a medium-sized flycatcher of the Andes, characterized by its overall dusky, smoky-brown plumage, often with a subtle rufous wash on the belly.
Where to spot
Humid montane forests, forest edges, and clearings in the Andes, from Venezuela to northern Peru.
How to spot
Look for its uniformly dusky plumage and upright posture. It often perches on exposed branches or dead snags within the forest or at its edge, sallying out for prey.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed during early mornings and late afternoons.
