Spotted
Salvini's Chat-Tyrant is a medium-sized flycatcher known from the high-altitude cloud forests of the Andes. It is subtly marked with an upright posture typical of chat-tyrants.
Where to spot
Endemic to the humid montane and cloud forests of the Andes in northern Peru and southern Ecuador, typically at high elevations.
How to spot
Look for its upright posture and subtle plumage in the mid-story and sub-canopy of cloud forests. Listen for its distinctive, often chatty calls.
When to spot
Active during daylight hours, often more vocal in the mornings. It is a resident species, observable year-round.
Like other chat-tyrants, it frequently flicks its tail up and down while perched, a common behavior during foraging or territorial displays.
