The White-backed Black-tit is a striking tit species with a contrasting white back against an otherwise black body. It inhabits high-altitude woodlands and junipers in the Horn of Africa.
Where to spot
Restricted to high-altitude juniper and cedar forests, as well as degraded woodlands, in the highlands of the Horn of Africa (Eritrea, Ethiopia).
How to spot
Look for its distinctive white back as it moves actively through the upper and mid-canopy of conifers. Listen for its high-pitched calls.
When to spot
Observable year-round, active during daylight hours. Best seen during the breeding season when pairs are more conspicuous.
