The Juniper Titmouse is a plain, crested titmouse species of western North America, very similar in appearance to the Oak Titmouse but preferring arid juniper and pinyon-juniper woodlands.
Where to spot
Found in the interior western United States, primarily in arid juniper and pinyon-juniper woodlands.
How to spot
Look in juniper and pinyon woodlands. It's best distinguished from the Oak Titmouse by habitat and slight vocal differences. Listen for its nasal, repetitive 'tsee-day-day-day' calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active throughout the day, particularly mornings.
