The Azure Tit is a striking and elegant tit species, notable for its predominantly white and blue plumage, including a brilliant white head and underparts contrasted with azure blue wings, back, and tail. It is a more elusive bird found in specific wetland and riverside habitats.
Where to spot
Found across Eastern Europe and temperate Asia, extending into Siberia and parts of China and Mongolia. It prefers broadleaf woodlands near water, such as willow and alder groves along rivers and lakes, and sometimes reeds.
How to spot
Its unique combination of white and azure blue plumage makes it unmistakable. Look for its white head with a black eye-stripe and a blue patch on the nape. It forages actively, often high in trees. Listen for its distinct 'tsi-tsi-tsi' calls.
When to spot
Observable year-round, as it is largely sedentary, though some northern populations may show short-distance movements. Most active during daylight hours.

Azure Tits are sometimes known to hybridize with Eurasian Blue Tits, producing offspring with intermediate plumage, often referred to as 'Pleske's Tit.'
