The Vitelline Masked Weaver is a small, bright yellow weaver bird with a black mask, similar to the Village Weaver but generally smaller and with a broader black mask. It is a common species of dry savannas.
Where to spot
Widespread across sub-Saharan Africa, from Senegal to Ethiopia and south to Tanzania. Inhabits arid and semi-arid savannas, grasslands, and thornbush.
How to spot
Look for its bright yellow plumage and distinct black mask (in breeding males). They are often found in noisy colonies, particularly in thorny trees. Listen for their buzzing, chattering calls.
