Where to spot
Open woodlands, marshes, fields, and coastal areas, especially near water bodies, throughout North America. Breeds across Canada and northern USA, winters in southern USA, Mexico, and Central America.
How to spot
Look for its distinctive iridescent blue-green back and pure white belly. Observe its characteristic graceful, gliding flight as it forages for insects. Often perches on wires or dead snags.
